John Lee Hooker arrived in Detroit in 1943 after leaving Mississippi. Like many others from the South, he came during the Great Migration, chasing his musical dream and seeking new opportunities up North. Detroit embraced him, and it was here that his sound evolved into something unmistakably his own—raw, rhythmic, hypnotic, and deeply rooted in the blues tradition.
