The students receive an age-appropriate, relatable introduction to music, its concepts and some basic skills. Lessons are interactive, using such activities as games, rhythm activities, and movement. Students learn fundamental musical concepts, sounds, instruments, rhythms, and melodies, making music with their voices and their bodies in an immersive, fun, inclusive experience.

For many reasons -- its flexibility of form, its far-reaching presence in so many musical forms including pop, and its prominent history in the city of Detroit -- the instructors chose jazz music precepts to anchor the lessons. Discovery of Detroit’s musical legends inspires pride in our city’s accomplishments and empowers students’ own musical journeys.
