It’s a magical time – students all fitted out in their concert wear, uncertain of what they are about to encounter but excited and ready to take it on, settling into a space that has been played by thousands of professional artists over the decades. And then they make it their own, just as those professionals had to do when they were starting out too. Following their set, the students mix and mingle with the Scott Gwinnell Jazz Orchestra members, soaking up the tips of the trade and the wisdom of those who have been through the same steps they are now taking.

Beaming families and friends pack the Café for the experience, with the students’ performances followed by a set from the SGJO. And just like that – more learning, more inspiration, and more music for the next generation.
