Steve Wood
Saxophonist/flutist Steve Wood has been performing in Michigan and Ohio for more than four decades and is considered one of the region’s leading players and teachers. After studying with Marvin “Doc” Holladay at Oakland University and Marcus Belgrave at the Jazz Development Workshop, Steve began performing and recording with Detroit’s top jazz artists including Ron English, Johnny Trudell, Marion Hayden and Scott Gwinnell. He has released two CDs of his own, toured Europe twice with the Paul Keller Orchestra, won the Hennessy Cognac Jazz Search twice, and was awarded an NEA Fellowship to study with George Coleman in New York City. Steve is active as an educator, currently teaching at Cranbrook Schools, MS Community Music School and the University of Windsor in Canada. He also conducts and performs in a series of jazz concerts in the public schools sponsored by the American Federation of Musicians.
