Greetings from the desk of Vince Paul

President and Artistic Director

Music Hall and the Jazz Café are your hotspots for the warmest vibes in town this February. We have a month full of reasons to get everyone out of the house and enjoy downtown’s Theatre District!

World-renowned percussionist Simon Phillips returns to the Jazz Café on the 1st,, keeping his promise to fans after a SoCal fire forced cancellation of the December tour. There’s family fare on the 4th and 25th, and as always, the performances present young minds with nutritious food for thought that’s delivered as sheer entertainment. The National Arab Orchestra, in residence at the Music Hall since 2013, will fill the Main Hall on the 10th with the exotic sounds of the oud, the tabla, and vocal talent from Syria and Tunisia. The performance is a rare opportunity to hear music collected to honor the contributions of Arab women.

Cool date night opportunity on the 11th, when the Grammy-winning composer of the score for the movie ‘Birdland’, Antonio Sanchez, plays LIVE accompaniment to the film. And Detroit’s own Allen Dennard, jazz trumpeter and composer, will help to enchant any Valentine you bring along.

Monthly tours of the Music Hall have caught on like crazy, as we knew they would. Learn about our incredible history and architecture, take a bow on the same stage as Fred Astaire and Ella Fitzgerald, and maybe – we can’t promise, of course, bump into a dressing room ghost for a quick moment. Email for a spot on the 24th at 1pm.

There’s more to browse here and on our Jazz Café site. Our social channels always have the latest and greatest: ….on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and Detroit Music Weekend official website!.

As always, "I'll see you downtown"
